As IT developers, we know a few more significant sins than copy paste a code. IT architects are lazier with this rule! As they propose to implement system by system, they replicate codes and customize without considering the cost-effectiveness of those decisions.
Practically they don't care about the weight of their decisions! The cost is not their factor; they position themselves as an artist with a white canvas for painting! It is the CIO's role to explain why their delivery slows down and the cost factor of the department aligns with an exponential curve.
The problem's root cause is the siloed mindset of the organizations. They don't care about the other department's work and decisions! It is their fault; I'm doing my job well!
In a proper culture, we trust and help each other with the correct information, and we embrace the comments because they want help instead of blaming!
I think this is why all technological jobs must have a background of hands-on coding experience. The standards that helps you to make the right decisions are pretty-old:
Abstraction was created by the ancient greek philosophers.
Object orientation created by the scientists of the '50s
If you embrace only these two topics and understand the consequences of these, you are already on the side of the light, however, belonging to the dark side has its distorted cultural advantages:
You have everything what you need to control your faith, if you understand the concepts!
In a proper culture the companies will start implementing full ownership for source code. With dependency mapping we can simplify great magnitude of our code. Just imagine, if you can even remove all part of a linux system which you don't use. How it would affect your risk for potential vulnerabilities?
If you see together the called OS stack call with the function you developed, how you can simplify the call stack?
I think there is an exponential potential in software optimization to reduce both data, and software code.
AI will be a great partner in this journey! It can see and understand the complexity what us humans can't!
When we make this friendship with artificial intelligence we will reach another level of collaboration and value creation!
I trust the disruption! Looking forward for these new beautiful era!
The profession will clean itself from those who on the dark side and choose the lazy way of thinking! Hopefully AI will take those jobs!
