I have seen several examples of how companies organize knowledge. I think the way they do it also reflects their culture.

In many organizations, we find selfish behavior driven by fear and dominance. Some examples from the typical thoughts (Similarity with a real example is only the work of chance):

If I don't share, I can build a more extensive department. A larger department means more budget, more people, promotions, and more salary.
If I share my knowledge, others will take my job.

These thoughts are from a lower developed culture. If we have self-confidence in our work and understand how we create value, we quickly eliminate the fear and focus on value creation.

Those on a higher level in self-development know they have excellent knowledge that creates values. If one door is closed, another opens. We can always find a place where we can create additional value that compensates our costs for the company. I think this mindset in my work comes from the consultation background where you always must have something for selling.

At Deltec Bank and Trust, I found great openness with our colleagues. During our Lunch and Learn sessions, I volunteered to show some examples of automation. The participation was way more than I imagined.

I think this is the future of information sharing, how we empower others how they can create more value in their daily work.
