Today, I saw an article shared by
Zoltán Dankó
. After I read the article:
I decided, I will write about the topic. I'm not happy with most of the things what Musk made at Twitter or nowadays X, but this step I fully agree, and the reason why I feel many times secondary shame when I see technology leaders' achievements.
I will describe in detail the problem:
Think about a traditional enterprise. They operate with their day-to-day business, sometimes their core systems are 10-15 years old and running on the same version, except for some database and OS upgrades.
The environment:
No need to describe Moore's law to anyone who knows even a little about technology improvement. Every 1.5 years the technology doubles capacity for the same price and doubles performance!
The question:
How the hell able any technology leader sell that for the same performance results (or even worse) the cost of system operation price goes up!
I think the problem is around economics where everybody believes inflation is a natural thing, but nobody realize that there is no 200% inflation anywhere in 1.5 years!!
To be fair we can expect inflation on the human resource costs, but not on the hardware what is required to run!
Technology leaders are many times more managers then professionals! Because lack of professional knowledge they rely on 3rd parties such as management consulting companies, who serve a higher purpose: Fuel an economy where everybody spends even more and buys even more! Like the dream of the economists!
You can imagine with an MBA degree, economics work even better!
The technology works differently than economy!
However most participant in the tech sector, especially at large enterprises uses the economic part! Build the economy! More you spend you become a bigger manager! Just think about the budget under management!
Most times I get the feedback - You are a unique creature!
However most of my peers enjoy being part of this economic system, I follow a different path! I think it is part of my integrity that I'm following the same path what I inherited from my family!
I only spend on those things what I would purchase from my own money! Where I see a technology benefit, I would invest - especially if I cannot assemble the same from available toolset!
Like I fight in the past numerous battles with my former workplace's infrastructure team, who preferred the vendor based solutions at any cost! It is not their money! They don't care how much it cost to the employer! The only importance to make our life easier, and sleep well! If any problem occurs I can call a number who will magically solve the problem!
Where is the professionalism?
I more prefer to understand how things work, like I wanted to understand in my childhood, and this was the reason why I disassembled everything around myself. As I grown up, I learn how to build things instead of disassemble.
With roots of eastern Europe, I think we have a unique gift which lead several bright minded people to invent fantastic things such Nicola Tesla!
Without playing and enjoying the technology how we can make good decisions?
I trust my own experiences more than any of the false messengers of the outside world who exists to run the circle economy of the technology!
I'm waiting in comments the similarity of Matthew McConaughey's story and this circular economy!
